Why Those Famous Job Websites May Be Sabotaging Your Job Search!

By: PAUL BOWLEY

It is easy, right? Post your resume on a couple of those famous job websites like Monster or HotJobs.
And then wait for the responses to come in.

OK. You are anxious to get as much exposure as possible. Nothing wrong with that. But those job websites is definitely NOT the way to go . . . unless you plan to spend weeks or months looking for a job.

I suppose we're all victims of "do it fast and easy" digital techniques. It seems logical. The internet provides global exposure for your credentials. All you have to do is wait for one or two of those millions of internet users (many of whom are employers) to discover your digital resume.

However, mass exposure didn't work in the days before the internet. And it doesn't work now. It's really just a question of statistics. The fact is that only 7% of job hunters have found "opportunities" that match their credentials. Notice, I didn't say they got job offers.

Job search experts know that relying on a digital job search is hopeless. This doesn't mean that every so often someone hits. But you're more likely to get struck by lightning or win the lottery. There has to be a better way!

The truth is . . . there are no shortcuts!

It's a fact that most folks find their next job as a result of a simple strategy called "networking." Whether you realize it or not, you probably got your last job because someone you know told you about it or sent you to someone who was in the know.

The truth is, these days you need a strategic plan that walks you step-by-step through an increasingly sophisticated job marketplace. One where employers' expectations and standards are exceptionally high. And if you can't anticipate and meet those expectations, you are out! And you probably won't even realize what happened until it's too late.

You want to be able identify opportunities, attract interviews and negotiate for the best offer . . . and all without relying on a mindless dissemination of your resume. And, if you're like most job searchers I know, you want to do it at lightning speed. I think you can see what an incredible advantage a plan like that would give you.

What if I told you, further, that you could be talking face-to-face with your next boss in a matter of days. Wouldn't that make you think twice about wasting a lot of time fooling around with those famous job websites? Wouldn't you rather jump at the chance to turn a long, long job search into a near-term winner?
